Ia mengatakan, kumbang rove itu adalah predator hama yang banyak menyerang tanaman petani, seperti hama wereng maupun serangga kecil lainnya. Jika kumbang itu dibasmi, akan meresahkan petani. Produksi tanaman mereka bisa turun drastis, karena dirusak hama.

Pihaknya menyayangkan dilakukannya pembasmian serangga tersebut. Menurut Suliyan, pembasmian tomcat membuat ekosistem terganggu. Karena populasi mereka akan semakin berkurang. "Tidak perlu menggunakan insektisida untuk membunuh serangga itu. Jika dilakukan, tentunya bisa mengganggu alam," tukasnya.

Tentang beralihnya habitat dari semula banyak tinggal di lokasi lembab areal persawahan dan saat ini beralih ke perkampungan, Suliyan mengatakan ada kemungkinan karena habitat mereka terganggu. Ia menduga luas lahan yang saat ini berkurang membuat tomcat beralih ke perkampungan warga.

"Bisa juga, karena cahaya. Serangga ini sangat tertarik dengan cahaya. Jadi, karena perkampungan warga itu banyak cahaya (lampu), mereka masuk"
